GENERAL DENTISTRY

General Services

A healthy smile begins with regular trips to the dentist. Most of the conditions that negatively affect your smile can be avoided with routine care. Your dental team at Bostick Dental Center is committed to answering your questions about proper hygiene and to providing you with the most advanced preventive dentistry.

Periodontal Therapy

Periodontal disease (also called gum disease, gingivitis, or periodontitis) refers to the infection of the supportive tissues of the mouth due to toxic bacteria found in plaque. Most adults suffer from some degree of gum disease, and if left untreated, gum disease can cause tooth loss, the breaking down of the soft tissue in the mouth and jaw, and other significant health problems. Drs. Bostick and Boyd will assess your periodontal health, and if needed, will conduct the appropriate therapy to restore gums and supportive tissues.

Fillings

When decay and bacteria are removed from a cavity, the area is then filled with a material that will seal and protect the structure of your tooth. With this procedure, your dentist helps minimize your risk for further decay.

Three-year-old visit

Children of all ages have a variety of dental needs ― particularly when it comes to preventing tooth decay and to managing the growth and development of their smiles. Research has shown a direct correlation between good dental health and many other aspects of a child’s life, including school performance and personal relationships.

Most of the conditions that negatively affect your child’s smile can be avoided with regular care. If your child hasn’t seen a dentist by his or her third birthday, this can be a perfect time to introduce them to the dentist. Dr. Bostick provides a welcoming environment to make children of all ages feel comfortable. Our team is committed to answering your questions about proper hygiene and to providing your child with the most advanced preventive dentistry.

NTI

Many people who notice chipped or cracked teeth, but don’t remember when the injury occurred, damaged their teeth while they were sleeping. Grinding or clenching your teeth during the night will cause your teeth to chip, crack, and even break. An NTI is a small device made from acrylics and hard plastics that only covers your anterior teeth. In addition to preventing the grinding of teeth, the extra benefit of the NTI is that over time, the device teaches your muscles to relax. In this way, an NTI may be able to help you break the habit of grinding altogether. If you are suffering from frequent migraines, as well as from damaged teeth, an NTI may be the answer. Ask your doctor today if an NTI is right for you.

Nightguard

Similarly to an NTI, a nightguard appliance protects your teeth from grinding and clenching in your sleep. Dr. Bostick will take great care in making sure you have a proper fit to prevent pain in your jaw joint. Ask your Bostick Dental Center team about having a nightguard custom created just for you.

Tooth Extraction

Although we always work to maintain as much of your natural tooth structure as possible, sometimes the best treatment option requires the removal of one or more teeth. When injury or disease dictates that extraction is the best course of action, we can perform the procedure gently and safely in our offices, then provide you with the ongoing treatment required to restore form and function to your smile!

Wisdom Teeth Removal

Do you still have your wisdom teeth? Have you been putting off their removal? At some point in your life, most everyone must have their third molars, or wisdom teeth, extracted as a measure of preventative dentistry. A number of painful and lasting problems can occur due to the arrival of wisdom teeth. But, with today’s dental technology, this procedure has been improved to maximize your comfort and to speed along your recovery time.

In most cases, your recovery from wisdom tooth extraction will only last a few days. Your Bostick Dental Center team will provide you with detailed information on the do’s and don’ts of recovery, and you will be prescribed medication to manage any pain. Finally, you will have peace of mind knowing that you are no longer at risk for the many problems wisdom teeth can present.

Root Canals

Damage to the nerve tissue inside of a tooth sometimes requires a root canal procedure. Despite the tales you may have heard regarding the procedure, most root canals are minimally uncomfortable ― especially compared to the pain and discomfort you may be feeling before the procedure. You will benefit from advances in technology and in dental techniques that make root canal procedures more effective while taking less time.

A root canal involves removing the soft tissue within the tooth (the pulp) when it has become infected and inflamed. Your dentist gently files the infected tissue out of the root canals of the tooth (this is where the procedure gets its name) and fills the void with an inert material. The procedure is completed with the placement of a filling or, in some cases, a crown.
